Overview
The Legal and Regulatory Affairs Counsel provides expert legal guidance on issues affecting CNCDA dealer members; advocates on CNCDA’s behalf at various regulatory agencies; provides guidance and counsel regarding new and existing laws, regulations, administrative policies, and court decisions to protect the interests of CNCDA dealer members. This role will support the Chief Legal Officer, the CNCDA President, and the CNCDA Director of Government Affairs with various legal and regulatory tasks.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive research and provide guidance on legal issues affecting CNCDA dealer members, including automobile sales and finance law, vehicle advertising law, and other potential issues.
- Advocate on behalf of CNCDA members at various regulatory agencies, such as the Bureau of Automotive Repair and Department of Motor Vehicles.
- Assist CNCDA staff in monitoring new laws (state and federal case law, statutory changes, and regulatory changes) that impact franchised new car dealers.
- Develop and write legal and regulatory articles for CNCDA publications including dealer alerts, bulletin articles, and regulatory and legislative summaries.
- Support the Director of Government Affairs in monitoring bills and drafting legislation, as needed.
- Assist the CNCDA Foundation, which provides scholarships for aspiring auto technicians.
- Provide compliance training to CNCDA members.
- Respond to member inquiries received through CNCDA’s legal hotline.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school required.
- Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California required.
- 2-5 years of work experience as an attorney at a law firm, company, nonprofit, or government agency preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks concurrently.
- Self-motivated and proactive approach to work.
- Collaborative team player with a can-do attitude.

- Hybrid Work Environment- While this is considered a hybrid (office/home) position, there will be frequent in-office requirements at the CNCDA office in Sacramento, CA.

Pay Scale
The salary range for this position is $125,000 to $160,000, commensurate with experience.
