California New Car Dealers Give More Than $5 Million to Local Charities

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, the California New Car Dealers Association, the nation’s largest state automobile dealer association, representing more than 1,200 franchised new car dealers throughout California, announced that its members have donated more than $5 million dollars to a number of charities, including more than $4.5 million to California chapters of the American Red Cross.

The distribution of funds comes from what was once the California Motor Car Dealers Employee Benefits Trust. With the termination of this health plan offering to employees in 2010, the funds accumulated and allocable portions of the surplus reserves have been distributed by an independent fiduciary, Newport Trust Co., after receiving input from former dealer trust participants. The donations were made broadly throughout the state to a variety of charities, including:

  9. American Red Cross San Diego/Imperial Counties

“California new car dealers continue to participate in charitable giving. In 2017, dealers made over $49 million in donations to charitable and civic organizations,” said California New Car Dealers Association Chairperson, Taz Harvey of Dublin Mazda. “Our dealers care about their local communities and feel fortunate to have the means to help support individuals and families in need. On behalf of our dealer trust participants, we are excited for this opportunity to provide an additional $5 million to our fellow Californians.”
